L'Acadèmia del Cinema de Hollywood ha presentat els nominats per a la 93a edició dels premis Oscar. Mank, el film sobre la història i la creació de Ciutadà Kane, és la candidata amb més nominacions. És l'única que se situa amb 10 estatuetes, liderant la graella.
El film de David Fincher és un altre dels principals ingredients que escenifica la consolidació de Netflix i de les plataformes en el considerat món clàssic del cinema. Nomadland, de Chloé Zhao; The Father, protagonitzada per Anthony Hopkins; The Trial of the Chicago 7, Judas and the black Messiah, Sound of metal i Minari competeixen totes elles amb 6 nominacions, en una edició immensament igualada.
Netflix i les plataformes es consoliden en el panorama de Hollywood, amb una força avasalladora per part de la multinacional de Reed Hastings. La plataforma ha aconseguit 35 nominacions, un rècord històric. Amazon, gràcies a Sound of Metal en particular, suma 12 nominacions. HBO -comptabilitzada com a distribuïdora gràcies al pacte amb la Warner- en suma 7 i Disney, que ja gaudia de bona presència des de fa anys, en suma 8.
El cinema afroamericà, després de diversos anys de reivindicacions i queixes contra l'Acadèmia, gaudeix aquesta edició d'una forta representació a tots els nivells: Judas and the Black Messiah, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The United States vs. Billie Holiday i One Night in Miami.... Chadwick Boseman, que va morir l'any passat víctima d'un càncer de colon, ha estat nominat a millor actor principal de manera pòstuma.
En direcció, dues dones se situen al capdavant de les nominacions (Chlóe Zhao i Emmerald Fennell) i Pedro Almodóvar, candidat a millor curtmetratge, s'ha quedat fora de la cursa dels Oscar. La cerimònia se celebrarà per primer cop el 25 d'abril, dos mesos més tard que les èpoques tradicionals, per culpa de la pandèmia. L'Acadèmia de Hollywood va voler donar més marge a diversos films perquè poguessin presentar candidatura.
